Special Health Projects

Overview

The Health Strategy, Innovation, and Program Support Unit (H-SIPS) at Â鶹´«Ã½ serves as an incubator for new projects for Center health programs. It focuses on addressing challenges to existing commitments in the areas of health systems strengthening, peace and health, mental health and infectious diseases, and climate change and health. H-SIPS also serves as the technical secretariat for the International Task Force for Disease Eradication.

As a newly redefined unit, H-SIPS is working to define its portfolio, projects, and priorities moving forward.

+Program Support & Innovation

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain the H-SIPS SharePoint website, including updating news, dashboard, etc.
  • Provide program and project support by conducting secondary research, identifying resources, and producing literature reviews for relevant topics.
  • Provide logistical support alongside the H-SIPS team for the International Task Force for Disease Eradication.
  • Design communications around new innovation procedures.
  • Support with ongoing and new initiative development.


Number of Interns per Semester: 1

Minimum Qualifications

  • Majors: Public health, biology, international relations, anthropology, or other related fields
  • Proficient in professional written and oral communication
  • Ability to conduct secondary research and design literature review
  • Intermediate Excel
  • Self-motivated, highly organized, and able to work independently
  • Positive attitude and flexibility to adapt to shifting priorities
  • Ability to interact with many different personalities
  • Passionate about international public health


Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with project management software
  • Familiarity with SharePoint or other website design

+Climate Change and Health

This internship position specifically focuses on advancing work on the climate change and health strategic lens. It will support H-SIPS and the Office of the Vice President (OVP) by conducting literature reviews and meta-research on the impact of climate change on key topic areas, including—but not limited to—NTDs, mental health, and maternal and child health in displaced populations.

Objectives of this Role

  • Conduct literature reviews for the impact of climate change on key areas of interest.
  • Support systematic review and scoping review efforts as needed.
  • Create resources for Â鶹´«Ã½ staff on the findings from research.  
  • Provide assistance for ongoing initiatives, concept notes, or grant development in the form of background research or program support.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Majors: public health, environmental sciences, biology, international relations, anthropology, or other related fields
  • Experience or ability to conduct literature reviews and meta-research including systematic reviews or scoping reviews
  • Basic knowledge about health impacts of climate change
  • Proficiency in professional written and oral communication
  • Ability to synthesize information into external-facing materials such as one-pagers and slide decks.
  • Self-motivated, highly organized personality, able to work independently
  • Positive attitude and flexibility to adapt to shifting priorities
  • Ability to interact with many different personalities
  • Passionate about the intersection of climate change and health


Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with systematic review software such as Covidence, RevMan, SRDR+
  • Familiarity with citation management software such as Zotero or Endnote
  • Familiarity with word processing and graphic design/formatting software such as Canva or advanced use of MS Word
