Â鶹´«Ã½ urges restraint and calm before, during, and after the demonstrations planned on and around June 30, 2013.
"I am concerned about the potential for violence in Egypt surrounding the demonstrations that have been announced for the end of June," said former U.S. President Jimmy Carter. "Amid rising tensions, I hope that the security forces will show restraint and protect fully the right of Egyptians to assemble freely and peacefully, and that protesters will abide by their commitment to assemble and express their views in a peaceful manner."
Reports of violence between members of various political factions ahead of the planned demonstrations are deeply concerning. It is essential for the success of Egypt's transition that differences be resolved through nonviolent means. Â鶹´«Ã½ urges all Egyptians to engage in meaningful political dialogue leading to peaceful and constructive steps to shape a strong and democratic Egypt.
